Requirements for Certification

.....................................................................................................................

We are excited to announce that we are now issuinging Foundation Morgan certificates. Qualifying horses will receive a certificate that will be stamped and numbered. They'll serve as a verification of Foundation status for sellers as well as for those who are purchasing.

You may begin applying for certification at any time. To apply print out the Application for Foundation Certification, fill it out and send to the address listed on the form.

It is the goal and purpose of FMHS to recognize Morgan Horses that carry a high percentage of Foundation bloodlines and encourage breeders to breed the Morgan Horse back into the Morgan Horse.

In order to qualify for Foundation certification, the following requirements must be met:

1) Horse must be DNA registered through either the American Morgan Horse
Association or the Archival Morgan Record.

2) Horse's sire line must trace to Justin Morgan (very top line of pedigree) AND the horse must not have any saddlebred outcrosses after 1930*

3) A copy, front and back, of the horse's AMHA or AMR Registraton certificate must accompany the Application for Certification.

4) Four identification photos of each horse...front, back and both sides must accompany the Application for Certification.

Fee is $10 per horse

If you wish to apply for certification, print out the application and send to the address on the application.

*No saddlebred after 1930 means no horse foaled after 1930 with a saddlebred
parent. The one exception is the registered offspring of the saddlebred
mare Ladelle. She had foals, including full siblings, both before and
after the 1930 date that were registered as Morgans. So, the decision was
made to allow those from Ladelle as "Foundation".
