Why is the Foundation Morgan Horse Society
an LLC and not a non-profit?
There
are several reasons why we chose to set up
as an LLC in the initial stages.
One is that it is quite a bit less expensive
to start up an LLC then a non-profit.
Since
we are funding this ourselves at the moment,
we need to keep costs down so we can get all
of this up and running correctly. As soon
it looks like it is going well and growing
then we will file for an "educational
not for
profit"
status. At that point all wrinkles will be
ironed out and it will be easier to transition to
a non-profit.
Why
is the 1930 date used instead of the AMHA closing
date of 1948?
If we use the 1948 cut off date, then we would have
the same horses as the present AMHA registry. By
using 1930 as a cut off date thus eliminates the
'modern'
Saddlebred returning
the original sireline to Figure (Justin Morgan).
The Lippitt family used a cutoff too, that only horses
tracing entirely to the first volumes of the Register
would
qualify. In order to save the other 'families' in
the breed we need to also have strict guidlines
or they will continue to be outcrossed and then lost
to the breed forever. We need to preserve all of
the 'original' families be it 'western', 'government','Lippitts'
etc. and do it now while
there are still Morgans without the embedded and
extreme linebreeding of the Saddlebred lines or there
will no longer be any Morgans of the 'original' founding
sire...Figure (Justin Morgan).
I can't find my horse on the database.
It may not have been registered in
the time frame that the data was collected. Look
for
the sire
and
dam of your horse, then if you still can't find them,
then maybe they are not 'foundation'. To make sure
please contact us.
How do I get my horse on the database?
If they are Foundation and not listed on the database,
please contact us and we will put them on the list.
If my horse has an x or an unregistered/unknown horse
in his pedigree does that mean he isn't 'foundation'?
No not at all. When the original data was collected,
there were many things that were mislabeled or
left out and we are trying to correct all of this.
Your help in this will be appreciated. If you should
see
something
that is wrong, please let
us know.
What family does my horse represent?
Contact us and we can help you with this.
If my horse isn't registered with AMHA or other can
I still get them certified?
YES it is possible if there are records etc. that
can be examined....each animal and documentation
will be done individually. Contact us so we can see
about processing the horse in question.
Can I use the 'foundation' logo?
YES... if you have 'foundation' horses. However,
if you have non-Foundation Morgans, our only requirement
is that you must identify on your website which horse
are Foundation. One of our goals is to educate the
public on what is Foundation and what is not. We
are trying to eliminate some of the confusion that
is already out there. We are
distributing
certificates for that purpose so that you can physically
show
this
to prospective buyers and or people wanting to use
a stallion. People are going to want to have this
as proof when purchasing and or using studs. There
are many people advertising their horses as Foundation,
when in fact they are not Foundation. This is confusing
to the public and the certificates will provide "proof"
of Foundation status as well as being a very good
marketing tool.
